About Us

Pharmacy College in Tamil Nadu

The first private Pharmacy College in Tamil Nadu was started in the year 1980 by Tamil Nadu Chemists & Druggists Association, forming a Trust in the name of Tamil Nadu Chemists & Druggists Educational Trust registered on 07/03/1980. The College was named as C.L.Baid Metha College of Pharmacy

Mr.C.S Ramamurthy the President of the Association was the first Founder Chairman, Mr.C.A.Vasudevan,General Secretary of Association was the first Executive Trustee. Mr.C.L.Metha, Mr.Vinod Khanna and Mr.Sreedharan as Members of the Association, were other Trustees

The College owns the property at the Prime location on Rajiv Gandhi Salai ( OMR ) purchased by the TNCDE Trust.

After the demise of Mr.Vinod Khanna who was the Chairman from August 1988 to March 2020, the Board was reconstituted on 08/08/2020

RESEARCH

The College has good infrastructure for research activities as is evident from the number of projects successfully being executed by the faculty members and students of the college. As many as 12 faculty members of the college have Ph.D. degree and have good number of publications in reputed national and international journals.

Project work for Ph.D., M.Pharm., M.Sc., B.Tech & M.Tech will be guided and supervised by experienced faculty in different field of specialization. Foundation also undertakes in house projects related to development of new formulations, drug delivery systems in both allopathic and herbal medicine segments. Short-term course is offered by the Research Foundation for products managers/executives in pharma industry, on technical writing of brochures, manuals, leave behind literature, visual aid albums etc.,

College Library offers materials on a wide range of Pharmacy subjects to support discovery and learning to meet the academic needs of students and faculty members. For research scholars emphasis is placed on current materials that will support and enrich projects.

 

A number of text books, reference books, journals, CDROM and periodicals make for interesting reading. Internet facility is available for online search particularly useful for post graduate students and research scholars.

BOOK BANK SCHEME

The college has a book bank scheme for all B.Pharm students.

This is a semester based scheme in which all books needed for the semester are issued to
students free of cost.

Books will be issued at beginning of each semester as per the schedule notified for the purpose.

Books will be issued for whole semester.

Students will be required to deposit the books after the completion of the exam as per the
schedule notified.

Pharmaceutics

FACILITIES AVAILABLE
The laboratories of the department of Pharmaceutics are equipped with sophisticated equipments like Brookfield Viscometer, Probe Sonicator, Pelletizer, Peristaltic Pump, Dissolution Apparatus, Humidity Chamber, Constant Temperature Water Bath, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator, etc.,
The Department also has a pilot manufacturing machine room with facilities for preparation of tablets, liquid orals, capsules etc., It is equipped with Rotary Tableting Machine, Granulator, Tablet Coating Machine, Liquid Filling Machine, Capsule Filling Machine etc.,

RESEARCH FOCUS:
The main area of research in the department is
Drug Delivery System: Novel Drug Delivery System are formulated, characterized and animal studies carried out to prove the efficacy of the modified dosage forms. Research work is carried out on controlled release, sustained release, liposomes, niosomes, transdermal patches, floating tablets, bioadhesive systems, osmotic pumps etc.,

Techniques of solubilization: Various techniques are employed for enhancing bioavailability of drugs.

Pharmacokinetics studies : Pharmacokinetics studies on animal models are carried out to evaluate the various pharmacokinetic parameters.



 

Pharmacology

Three Laboratories of 4500 sq.ft.are available for conducting of Pharmacology Practicals and carrying out research projects. Student’s Physiography, Analegesiometer, Histamine Chamber, Actophotometer, Blood sugar monitoring apparatus, Eddy’s Hot Plate, Convulsiometer etc., are some of the available equipments.
Well maintained animal house constructed as per CPCSEA norms houses the animals used in the various experiments. The animal ethics committee is approved by CPCSEA and accords approval for animal experimentation carried out.

The animal house facilities are approved by the CPCSEA (Committee for the purpose of control and supervision of Experimented animals).Research projects for academic and industries on herbal & synthetic drugs are undertaken.

The main area of research in the department is
Toxicological evaluation: Acute and repeated dose studies as per the ECD, DCGI guidelines.
Pharmacological studies: Screening of drugs acting on Liver, GIT, Anti diabetic drugs and psycho pharmacological evaluation.
Pharmacokinetic studies : Bioavailability studies of Raw materials as well as finished product formulation using animal models.


 

 

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

FACILITIES AVAILABLE
The Laboratories of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry are equipped with the necessary instruments, glassware and facilities for conducting practical classes and carrying out research projects. The department is equipped with sophisticated instruments like fully automated advanced Microwave system, Flash rotary vacuum evaporator, Vacuum oven, Thermostatic oil bath, Thermostatic water bath.

RESEARCH FOCUS:

The main area of research is synthesis, extraction, isolation of novel heterocyclic lead molecules (by CADD, Conventional and Microwave irradiation) of natural and synthetic origin. Further characterisation by various spectral and chromatographic techniques such as FT-IR, NMR, Mass spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, HPLC and HPTLC. The lead molecules are screened for various biological activities like anticancer, antiulcer, antimicrobial, antitumor, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities etc.



Department of Pharm Analysis

The department has sophisticated instruments like HPLC, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, FT-IR Sepctrophotometer, Flamephotometer, Flourimeter, Polarimeter etc.,

RESEARCH FOCUS:

Currently the second year M.Pharm Pharmaceutical Analysis students are carrying the project on newly launched multidrug formulations.

SPECTROSCOPIC METHODS:

Derivative spectroscopy, absorption ratio method, simultaneous equation method and method validation.

CHROMATOGRAPHY :

HPLC, HPTLC method development and validation of the method.
Validating the above parameters for quantification of result by statistical parameters such as linearity, calibration, precision, accuracy, robustness, ruggedness, recovery studies, system suitability, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification.


 

Pharmacognosy

The department has two spacious laboratories, which are fully equipped with sophisticated instruments and equipments like Trinocular research microscopes, Rotary Vacum Evaporator, Polarizing Microscopes, Electronic Balance, TLC apparatus etc., The department also maintains a sprawling medicinal garden with more than 25 species of medicinal plants.


Department of Pharmacy Practice

The Department of Pharmacy Practice started clinical pharmacy services with well established drug information centre, Patient Counseling centre and adverse drug reaction reporting at V.H.S Hospital in the year 2010. V.H.S is a 475 bedded multi -specialty hospital situated at Adyar. The drug information centre provides with good source of information for all healthcare professionals and general public.

Drug Information Center- The center provides current drug information from standard monographs, text books, internet resources and subscribed databases Micromedx – Drugdex.

Pride in practice- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree program educates students to become pharmacists who are generalist pharmacy practitioners and prepares them to identify, resolve and prevent drug related problems. The professional curriculum is structured around an integrated approach to drug therapy management.

 

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to provide excellence in teaching as well as in clinical services. Through innovative teaching methods, the Department provides the skills necessary to practice in specialized areas such as: drug information services, critical care, ambulatory medicine, clinical research, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, adverse drug reaction reporting, and patience counseling. Our students have an extensive array of preceptor experiences to learn from clinical experts during ward rounds as well as in the community services.

Students Grievance Redressal Cell

The Statutory Committee Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) is formed as per Clause 1 of section 23 of the AICTE Act, 1987 (52 of 1987) AICTE and as per the letter No. 1- 101/DPG/AICTE/Ombudsman/2012 dated 9th July 2012.
The Committee aims at being a link between students, teachers and college administration. It is established to create a healthy and safe atmosphere for students of this esteemed College. We actively seek to address issues on student front. It is possible that any individual student or group of students or a particular class may face issues with teaching or non-teaching staff related to academies or the environment in the college premises or regarding any facilities provided to the students. Therefore our committee promotes timely and transparent resolution of these issues/ suggestions in a confidential manner.

Procedure: The student concerned with any grievance shall fill the Grievance Redressal Form available on our institute website www.clbaidmethacollege.com with all possible facts and submit it online. The committee will investigate into the matter and shall try to resolve it as quickly as possible. The committee will also make all efforts to ensure transparency in the investigation in all the stages involved in the grievance and the same shall be communicated to the applicant.

Anti Ragging Committee

Ragging is totally banned in the college and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging is liable to be punished as it is a criminal offence. 

Anti Ragging Committee has been constituted to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging including any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student, or indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student or asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student, with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student, in all higher education institutions in the country, and thereby, to provide for the healthy development, physically and psychologically, to all students.
