FACILITIES AVAILABLE
The Laboratories of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry are equipped with the necessary instruments, glassware and facilities for conducting practical classes and carrying out research projects. The department is equipped with sophisticated instruments like fully automated advanced Microwave system, Flash rotary vacuum evaporator, Vacuum oven, Thermostatic oil bath, Thermostatic water bath.

RESEARCH FOCUS:

The main area of research is synthesis, extraction, isolation of novel heterocyclic lead molecules (by CADD, Conventional and Microwave irradiation) of natural and synthetic origin. Further characterisation by various spectral and chromatographic techniques such as FT-IR, NMR, Mass spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, HPLC and HPTLC. The lead molecules are screened for various biological activities like anticancer, antiulcer, antimicrobial, antitumor, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities etc.

Department of Pharm Analysis

The department has sophisticated instruments like HPLC, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, FT-IR Sepctrophotometer, Flamephotometer, Flourimeter, Polarimeter etc.,

RESEARCH FOCUS:

Currently the second year M.Pharm Pharmaceutical Analysis students are carrying the project on newly launched multidrug formulations.

SPECTROSCOPIC METHODS:

Derivative spectroscopy, absorption ratio method, simultaneous equation method and method validation.

CHROMATOGRAPHY :

HPLC, HPTLC method development and validation of the method.
Validating the above parameters for quantification of result by statistical parameters such as linearity, calibration, precision, accuracy, robustness, ruggedness, recovery studies, system suitability, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification.

Department of Pharmacy Practice

The Department of Pharmacy Practice started clinical pharmacy services with well established drug information centre, Patient Counseling centre and adverse drug reaction reporting at V.H.S Hospital in the year 2010. V.H.S is a 475 bedded multi -specialty hospital situated at Adyar. The drug information centre provides with good source of information for all healthcare professionals and general public.

Drug Information Center- The center provides current drug information from standard monographs, text books, internet resources and subscribed databases Micromedx – Drugdex.

Pride in practice- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree program educates students to become pharmacists who are generalist pharmacy practitioners and prepares them to identify, resolve and prevent drug related problems. The professional curriculum is structured around an integrated approach to drug therapy management.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to provide excellence in teaching as well as in clinical services. Through innovative teaching methods, the Department provides the skills necessary to practice in specialized areas such as: drug information services, critical care, ambulatory medicine, clinical research, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, adverse drug reaction reporting, and patience counseling. Our students have an extensive array of preceptor experiences to learn from clinical experts during ward rounds as well as in the community services.
