Bachelor of Pharmacy

The B.Pharm course is of four years duration (Eight Semester), for which the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, conducts the qualifying examinations. Students completing this degree course are eligible to register as pharmacist and practise the profession throughout India as per the rules and regulations of Pharmacy Council of India. Through this degree program the students are trained to work in hospitals as well as in pharmaceutical manufacturing and analytical units. Apart from the usual curriculum, the college provides practical training in pharmaceutical industries and in hospitals all over India. Students completing the degree program in this institution are thus themselves getting enormous confidence and ability in their profession.


Diploma in Pharmacy

The D.Pharm course is a two years course for which the Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, conducts the qualifying examinations. In this course, the students are well equipped and trained to prepare and dispense the pharmaceutical substances. They also receive in-plant training in government hospitals at the headquarters through which the communication skill with the patients and the confidence towards the profession are improved significantly.


Additional Training

All along the duration of the above said courses, the students would avail with of training / coaching in such areas like
* GATE * TOEFL * Spoken English * Computer Programming etc.
It is optional for the student to select one or more of these. All such training/ coaching are being conducted with the assistance of experts specialized in the corresponding areas.

About the Department

The Department of Pharmaceutics of Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy has a tradition and innovation in the development, characterization and evaluation of different dosage forms.

The Department of Pharmaceutics has been recognised to conduct RESEARCH PROGRAMME leading to Ph.D. degree by The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai

This department mainly deals with preformulation and formulation aspects of conventional and novel drug delivery systems





Vision

To develop the centre of excellence by research and development in the filed of Pharmaceutics, to create newer Concepts by adopting various technologies in collaborating with Pharmaceutical industries.





Mission

To deliver quality Pharmacists to the nation and serve the society with ethics of the Pharmacy profession.

To create the novel database required for the development of newer formulations

To learn and adopt the newer strategies required for the development of various dosage forms

To develop the research activities for the development of novel drug delivery systems and to file patent for the developed formulations

Infrastructure of the department

The department will have two separate Diploma labs, three undergraduate labs and two PG labs and a machine room. The department will have separate book bank facilities for the B.Pharm and M.Pharm students. The department will have digital library to provide access to the online journals.

Pharmacology

About the Department

The Department of Pharmacology of Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy has its novel way of screening of different phytopharmaceuticals and synthetic drugs on various experimental animal models.

The Department fulfils the needs of the co-departments like pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical chemistry with regard to screening of drugs on experimental animals

The Department has Institutional Animal Ethical Committee for the purpose of control and supervision of experimental animals

Pharmacognosy

About the Department

Pharmacognosy is a bridge between pharmaceutical and basic sciences.

It is a vital link between ayurvedic and allopathic systems of medicine.

Medicinal preparations derived from plants sources have been in widespread use since time immemorial.

Pharmacognosy covers the fields of phytochemistry, standardization and study of the bioactive substances in medicinal plants.



Vision

To establish a leadership role in the pursuit and development of knowledge through training and research in the field of natural products.

To identify known, unknown Indian indigenous tropical herbals and isolate the active principles for the refractory diseases and formulate in acceptable form without any side effects to the society in affordable cost.





Mission

To educate and train the budding pharmacists on cutting-edge research in the natural medicine to enhance the quality of life for our community and for humanity.

To create a large database for the traditional tropical herbals by conducting on field ethnomedical survey in the Western Ghats.

To maintain a herbarium museum for the tropical herbals of south India which helps to identify and authenticate medicinal plants by the students and research scholars of all over south India

To create monographs and standards for the indigenous and endangered red listed medicinal plants for the inclusion in herbal Pharmacopeias.

Develop suitable extraction / isolation & quality control methods for natural products used as pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements & cosmetics.

To foster innovation in research by organizing collaborative activities with other departments, faculties of the research institution herbal industries


 

Facilities

Central animal house, transport, hostel, sports center and other facilities

Central Animal house

 

A multi compartment animal house is well furnished and designed to provide appropriate capabilities from breeding to housing for experimentation.

The animal house is approved by CPCSEA, New Delhi

The animals such as mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs etc are available for routine practicals and pharmacological research.

The animal were provided with standard pellet diet and drinking water ad Libitum.


 



Hostel

Separate hostels are available for boys and girls with fully furnished facilities.

Hostels have independent mess with the requisite facilities.

Wholesome hygienic food is provided with rich aroma and taste.

24 x 7 electricity (generators), mineral water, medical and conveyance facilities are ensured for the hostel students.


    


   

 

Sports Center

Well developed facilities are available for the following games

Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Cricket & Kabaddi.

Well maintained 200 and 400 meters athletic track is also available.

The sports activities are carried out under the supervision and guidance of Physical Director

The Indoor recreation and student activity centre for chess and carrom is also available

The College has its own transport facility with buses plying from Sivakasi and Virudhunagar to College campus.

All those candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects, along with one of the following subjects:- Mathematics / Computer Science / Biology.      (OR)

All those candidates who have passed Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized Pharmacy College.


Lateral entry (Direct second year B.Pharm admission)

The students who have passed D.Pharm course with minimum 40% marks in aggregate or 35% for SC / ST. Such students can directly take admission into second year B.Pharm through counseling conducted by the Selection Committee of DME, Chennai OR by direct admission as management quota

 

M. Pharm

A Pass in B.Pharm degree from a recognized Institute / University approved by PCI, New Delhi.

SB College of Pharmacy has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research from 1988. In the finest global tradition of the reputed seats of learning, which cherish links with their former students for mutual pride and enrichment, SB College of Pharmacy has created a Department of Alumni Association in the year 1991.

Mr. M. Balamurugan was nominated as the President of the association from November 2011 and the Patron would be Mr. S. SRIRAMASHOK, B.E, Chairman, SBCP. The association is formed with an ambition of striving for the success of its alumni on the national and international fronts.
