Pharmaceutics

About the Department

The Department of Pharmaceutics of Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy has a tradition and innovation in the development, characterization and evaluation of different dosage forms.

The Department of Pharmaceutics has been recognised to conduct RESEARCH PROGRAMME leading to Ph.D. degree by The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai

This department mainly deals with preformulation and formulation aspects of conventional and novel drug delivery systems





Vision

To develop the centre of excellence by research and development in the filed of Pharmaceutics, to create newer Concepts by adopting various technologies in collaborating with Pharmaceutical industries.





Mission

To deliver quality Pharmacists to the nation and serve the society with ethics of the Pharmacy profession.

To create the novel database required for the development of newer formulations

To learn and adopt the newer strategies required for the development of various dosage forms

To develop the research activities for the development of novel drug delivery systems and to file patent for the developed formulations

To create funding for the development of research and development from Government funding agencies

To motivate the scientific research activities and to provide services to the community Pharmacists

The department shall promote excellence in research and teaching in Pharmaceutical Sciences by facilitating industry institute partnerships

To develop responsible Entrepreneurs in the to the Pharmaceutical sciences.

The faculty also aims at increasing the communication links with the alumni and stakeholders



Infrastructure of the department

The department will have two separate Diploma labs, three undergraduate labs and two PG labs and a machine room. The department will have separate book bank facilities for the B.Pharm and M.Pharm students. The department will have digital library to provide access to the online journals.

Objectives

To prepare competent pharmaceutical analysts and researchers at various levels for India.

To prepare globally recognised pharmaceutical scientists.

To generate a novel molecule to fight against diabetes and its associated complications

Pharmacology

About the Department

The Department of Pharmacology of Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy has its novel way of screening of different phytopharmaceuticals and synthetic drugs on various experimental animal models.

The Department fulfils the needs of the co-departments like pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical chemistry with regard to screening of drugs on experimental animals

The Department has Institutional Animal Ethical Committee for the purpose of control and supervision of experimental animals

To improve the techniques of evaluating drugs toxicity on experimental animal models

To produce pharmacologist to meet the requirement of industry and research.

To develop a new drug molecule with expected biological activities in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

To kindle research activities for the improved study of drug’s effects on animals/human beings.

To secure funds from the institutional and Government funding agencies for the screening of pharmacological activities and also to introduce a new drug molecule in the thrust area.

Pharmacognosy

About the Department

Pharmacognosy is a bridge between pharmaceutical and basic sciences.

It is a vital link between ayurvedic and allopathic systems of medicine.

Medicinal preparations derived from plants sources have been in widespread use since time immemorial.

Pharmacognosy covers the fields of phytochemistry, standardization and study of the bioactive substances in medicinal plants.



Vision

To establish a leadership role in the pursuit and development of knowledge through training and research in the field of natural products.

To identify known, unknown Indian indigenous tropical herbals and isolate the active principles for the refractory diseases and formulate in acceptable form without any side effects to the society in affordable cost.





Mission

To educate and train the budding pharmacists on cutting-edge research in the natural medicine to enhance the quality of life for our community and for humanity.

To create a large database for the traditional tropical herbals by conducting on field ethnomedical survey in the Western Ghats.

To maintain a herbarium museum for the tropical herbals of south India which helps to identify and authenticate medicinal plants by the students and research scholars of all over south India

To create monographs and standards for the indigenous and endangered red listed medicinal plants for the inclusion in herbal Pharmacopeias.

Develop suitable extraction / isolation & quality control methods for natural products used as pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements & cosmetics.

To foster innovation in research by organizing collaborative activities with other departments, faculties of the research institution herbal industries
